The awkward part of Broken Monument isn't finding the first clue; it's deciding how much trouble three small relics are worth once the Scrap Yard starts getting noisy. Tian Wen's mission sends you into Dam Battlegrounds for a First Wave Compass, First Wave Video Tape, and Old Field Rations, with all three needed in one successful round. That makes the quest a sharp lesson in carrying risk, especially when you're already thinking about ARC Raiders Items and the rest of your loadout.
What You Actually Need to Bring Home
Broken Monument begins after What We Left Behind and focuses on the southern Scrap Yard, near the hallowed First Wave battleground. The compass sits around broken vehicles, the tape is near cylindrical containers, and the rations are in Raider Camp. Finding one or two objectives and leaving won't finish the mission, so treat the round as one connected run rather than three separate errands.
The Route I'd Use
Start with the damaged vehicles, then sweep toward the cylindrical containers before approaching Raider Camp. This order keeps the movement fairly direct and lets you learn how active the area is before committing to the most uncomfortable stop. From what I've seen, the camp deserves the most respect because it combines tighter cover, more sightline problems, and greater pressure once the rations are in your inventory.
Check the vehicle wreckage edges and nearby ground for the compass.
Search around the bases of the cylindrical containers instead of staring only at the containers themselves.
Pause outside Raider Camp and choose an exit before collecting the rations.
Confirm all three quest items are present before moving toward extraction.
Three Stops, Three Different Problems
The locations look similar on a map, but they ask different things from you. The wrecked vehicles reward patience and visual scanning. The container area can tempt you into standing exposed for too long. Raider Camp is less about the item itself and more about entering, searching, and leaving without turning a nearly finished round into a reset.
Objective Main risk Better habit
First Wave Compass Debris hides the pickup Check wreckage edges
First Wave Video Tape Too much time in the open Search the nearby cover
Old Field Rations A messy retreat Pick an exit first
Don't Let the Last Item Make You Greedy
The common mistake is treating the rations as the finish line. They're only the finish line for the search. Once that pickup is secured, extra loot becomes harder to justify, since every detour adds exposure and gives hostile machines or other players more chances to interrupt the run. I could be wrong but, at least in my experience, the best Broken Monument rounds are deliberately boring after the third item.
What Update 1.42.0 Changes
Update 1.42.0 added the second Phantom Targets project, expanded event content, introduced the Tick Hunter Set, and changed the schedule for regional map conditions. None of that changes the quest objectives, but it can change how comfortable the Scrap Yard feels in a given round. Use the same landmarks, yet remain ready to abandon a bad approach rather than force a familiar route through an unusually busy area.
Rewards and the Bigger Lesson
Tian Wen rewards completion with Arpeggio I, Compensator II, and 80 Medium Ammo. Those supplies are useful, but the quest's real value is teaching Arc Raiders' risk loop: identify a target, protect the run, and extract before impatience ruins the payoff. Broken Monument turns scattered battlefield leftovers into a compact test of discipline, and that is why it remains more memorable than a routine collection task. Once Tian Wen has everything, the extra materials you bring back can make browsing ARC Raiders Loot for sale feel less like a substitute for progress and more like a way to prepare the next drop. |
